Harry torpedoes fragile peace with King Charles over fresh security demand

Part 1 of 2

Just weeks after what seemed like a turning point in his strained relationship with King Charles III, Prince Harry has reportedly reignited tensions by requesting a review of his UK security arrangements.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, recently returned to Britain for the WellChild Awards, where he also met privately with his father at Clarence House — their first face-to-face meeting in 19 months. The one-hour reunion was viewed as a hopeful step toward reconciliation following years of family discord since Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California.

However, that fragile progress appears to have quickly unraveled.

A New Push for Government-Funded Protection

According to The Sunday Times, Harry has written to UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, requesting a new risk assessment in hopes of reinstating taxpayer-funded security during his visits to the UK.

A palace insider told the outlet the move has caused irritation behind palace doors. “It’s not going to help matters. We’re back to where we were,” the source said.

This renewed demand comes just months after Harry lost a High Court appeal against the UK government’s decision to remove his publicly funded protection.

Security Dispute Deepens the Rift

The issue remains one of the biggest obstacles in Harry’s relationship with the King. According to reports, the Duke still believes his father has the power to intervene and reverse the ruling.
