Kate Middleton Dazzles in Emerald Velvet and Queen Elizabeth’s Diamonds at the Royal Variety Performance

Kate Middleton made a radiant return to the Royal Variety Performance on Wednesday night, stepping onto the red carpet in a luxurious emerald velvet gown — and showcasing some of Queen Elizabeth II’s most breathtaking jewels.

The Princess of Wales, 43, arrived at London’s Royal Albert Hall wearing the figure-skimming “Bobonne” gown by German fashion house Talbot Runhof. The design featured softly ruched shoulders, long sleeves, and a dramatic mermaid-style hem that swept elegantly across the floor.

To elevate the look, Kate reached into the royal vaults, pairing her gown with Queen Elizabeth’s exquisite Greville chandelier earrings. Crafted by Cartier, the Art Deco–style pieces feature cascading tiers of diamonds and were originally gifted to the late Queen by the Queen Mother in 1949. She completed her jewelry ensemble with a diamond bar bracelet once owned by Queen Mary, who famously wore the piece as a choker in the 1920s.

Matching her glamorous jewelry, the princess carried a silver Jenny Packham clutch, slipped into green velvet Manolo Blahnik pumps, and wore her hair in soft, loose curls.

Prince William complemented his wife’s elegant look in a classic black velvet tuxedo jacket paired with a crisp white dress shirt and bow tie.

The evening marked Kate’s first appearance at the charity gala since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and her gradual return to public duties. It also marked the couple’s sixth time attending the iconic event, which raises funds for performers facing illness or financial hardship.

Speaking with guests, Kate revealed that her three children — Prince George, 12; Princess Charlotte, 10; and Prince Louis, 7 — were “very sad” they couldn’t join their parents. Children are not permitted at the adult-only program, which featured performances from Paddington The Musical, Jessie J, Laufey, Madness, and Sir Stephen Fry.

In one especially heartwarming moment, Kate shared a hug with singer Jessie J, who recently completed her own battle with breast cancer — a quiet show of strength, solidarity, and resilience.
