Why is it smart to put aluminum foil behind the WiFi router?

Whether it is to order products, search for relevant and fast information, communicate or work, the internet connection must now be included in Maslow’s pyramid. We ardently want to have access to it, all the time and everywhere… And that’s not all. We need broadband for better experiences. However, this is not always possible. Even at home, you can get a strong WiFi signal in one room and a very weak one in the next. Frustrating, right?

You can certainly overcome this problem by purchasing a more powerful router or a Wifi extender to amplify the signals. But it can be expensive! Fortunately, there is a practical and much cheaper trick to boost your Wifi router. Let’s find out!

Boost Wi-Fi Connection with Aluminum Foil

Many of us know that WiFi signals in the home are transmitted via radio waves. Additionally, other home devices use radio waves, such as your router .

Aluminum cans and sheets benefit from a shiny side that acts as a reflector. In fact, this face can reflect radio waves and transmit them on a larger scale . This intriguing phenomenon was confirmed after a study conducted by researchers at Dartmouth College, a private university in the northeastern United States. This paves the way for future studies in this direction!

Using aluminum foil, there are several methods to strengthen the WiFi signal . Discover the simplest one, the one you can do right now at home!

You will need the following items:

  • aluminum foil (or an aluminum can)
  • A small box (or the box the router came with)
  • Scotch tape

First, stick the aluminum foil to the surface of your box. Its size should approximately match the size of the router. If you still have the box that the router came with, then you should replace your little box. Make sure the aluminum foil extends over all surfaces. Use tape or glue to keep it flat.

Then place the box right behind the antennas. That’s it, that’s it! You can then do internet speed tests to see the difference.

If you prefer to use an aluminum can, you should follow this process: first wash the can. Then cut off the top and bottom with strong scissors or a knife. Be careful not to hurt your hands! After this work, you will end up with a hollow cylindrical box. Now cut the coil vertically to get a flat sheet. Finally, place this sheet behind the router or antennas to strengthen your WiFi signal. You can use tape to secure it.

We still recommend that you opt for aluminum foil instead of the can, as it is the simplest and least risky maneuver.

There you go, now you can apply this trick to benefit from an even stronger WiFi signal!
