Meghan Markle just overtook another royal after hitting major milestone

Just weeks after making her return to Instagram, Meghan Markle has hit a major social media milestone, surpassing a fellow royal in follower count.

Since stepping down as senior royals in 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry have largely stayed away from social media. However, ahead of the premiere of her Netflix series With Love and the launch of her lifestyle brand, As Ever, Meghan made an unexpected return to Instagram on New Year’s Day.

Her upcoming series will feature the Duchess alongside celebrity guests as she shares tips on cooking, hosting, and gardening.

In a video introducing her lifestyle brand—which will offer products like fruit preserves, non-medicated hair treatments, candles, stationery, and jewelry—Meghan reflected on how she “hasn’t been able to share” certain aspects of her life “for the past few years.”

Now, less than two months since rejoining the platform, Meghan has already surpassed another royal in follower count.

She has quickly reached two million Instagram followers, overtaking Princess Eugenie, who currently has 1.8 million and has been posting consistently for over six years.

Despite this, Meghan, 43, and Eugenie, 34, are believed to share a close friendship. Reports suggest Eugenie was the first royal to meet Meghan when she began dating Harry in 2016. The princess also made a brief appearance in the couple’s 2022 Netflix documentary, which chronicled their lives after stepping back from royal duties.

Since returning to Instagram, Meghan has shared several posts, including a heartfelt Valentine’s tribute to Prince Harry.

In the caption, she wrote: “Back home taking care of our babies, and missing my Valentine, as he continues on at the Invictus Games, changing lives and reminding all of us of the power of healing and resilience through these incredible veterans and their families.

“Beyond proud of my husband and what he’s created.

“My love, I will eat burgers & fries and fish & chips with you forever. Thank you for you.”

She has also posted a trailer for With Love, which is set to premiere on March 4.

Despite her return to the platform, the mother of two has chosen to keep comments disabled on her posts. Meghan has previously spoken openly about the trolling she experienced after joining the royal family.
