King Charles’ brutal act toward Princess Anne’s husband, Sir Timothy Laurence

King Charles has given a huge new promotion to Sir Timothy Laurence, the husband of Princess Anne, in recognition of his long and loyal service.

Sir Timothy, 70, is not only known as the Princess Royal’s supportive spouse but is also widely respected as a retired senior Royal Navy officer and trusted member of the royal household. Now, his decades of dedication have been marked with one of the highest honours the Crown can bestow.

Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order

According to the Court Circular, King Charles personally invested Sir Timothy last week on August 21 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The Princess Royal’s husband received the insignia of a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO), the highest grade within the order founded by Queen Victoria in 1896.

This new honour makes Sir Timothy the first member of the royal family to be awarded a GCVO since Princess Kate, who received it from Queen Elizabeth II in 2019. The recognition is believed to be a deeply personal gesture from King Charles, honouring Sir Timothy’s many years of loyal service and unwavering support to the monarchy.

The Royal Victorian Order is conferred solely at the monarch’s discretion, which explains why the honour was not made public in advance. Recipients of the Knight Grand Cross are permitted to use the post-nominal letters GCVO after their name.

Reactions and Significance

Royal fans expressed delight on social media following the announcement. One wrote: “From now on, Sir Tim’s full title is Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, GCVO CB CSM ADC FSA. I’m glad my dream finally came true. He is highly deserving of the highest level of the Royal Victorian Order.” Another added: “Congratulations, Sir Timothy. About time, I would say.” A third noted: “Very happy for Sir Timothy Laurence, GCVO. Well deserved.”

Sir Timothy’s promotion comes at a time when King Charles continues to streamline the monarchy, reinforcing the key roles of senior family members. Laurence has long demonstrated reliability, both through his distinguished Royal Navy career – which included serving as equerry to Queen Elizabeth II – and his steady support of Princess Anne in her royal duties.

The couple, who married in 1992, have become a model of dedication and service within the royal family. Now, Sir Timothy’s new title formally recognises the respect he has long earned both inside and outside the royal household.
