Sarah Ferguson’s Downfall Just Handed King Charles a ‘Golden Opportunity’ — But Will He Take It?

Sarah Ferguson has once again found herself at the center of controversy, with her past making headlines yet again.

On September 20, leaked emails revealed that she had privately apologized to Jeffrey Epstein after publicly condemning him. This revelation, described as a major scandal, is being viewed as a warning for King Charles that more damaging stories could still emerge.

Royal expert Lee Cohen noted that Charles now has the “golden opportunity” to cut ties with both Ferguson and Prince Andrew in order to protect the monarchy’s reputation.

Ferguson’s Pattern of Missteps

The leaked emails are only the latest in a series of missteps by Ferguson. From cash-for-access schemes to ill-judged interviews, she has long been seen as a liability for the royal family.

Writing for GB News, Cohen argued, “The royal family should now put self-preservation over sentiment. That means formal, public distancing: revoking titles where possible, removing references from official websites, and excluding the Yorks from royal events and occasions.”

According to Cohen, King Charles faces a personal struggle between his loyalty to his brother and sister-in-law and his duty as monarch. He explained, “While outside organizations act swiftly to protect their reputations, the royal family remains overly cautious, perhaps clinging to hopes of reconciliation.”

Following the Queen’s Example

Cohen also pointed to the late Queen Elizabeth II’s strong sense of duty, suggesting Charles should follow her example when dealing with Ferguson.

“The late beloved Queen was known for her sense of duty and her ability to rise above personal grievances. Honoring that legacy means defending the institution she upheld, not enabling those who undermine it,” he said.

Over the years, Charles has made efforts to remove Andrew and Ferguson from the Royal Lodge, but their lease allows them to remain there until 2028. Beyond this, the King has not taken firm action against the couple, a move that critics argue has only weakened the monarchy.

Public Distrust and Growing Pressure

The Epstein scandal and the Sussexes’ public fallout have already eroded trust in the monarchy. Cohen urged Charles to take decisive steps, stating, “By decisively removing the Yorks and Sussexes, the King can restore focus, regain public confidence, and pave the way for a stronger and more respected monarchy.”

Prince William is also said to be losing patience with Andrew and Ferguson’s continued presence. A source told the Daily Mail, “William feels even more strongly… that Andrew and Fergie are an embarrassment and will be urging his father to act. The optics of that pair of chancers guffawing away [at events] look terrible.”
