A simple and effective trap to get rid of flies

Let’s face it — flies are not only annoying, but they’re also downright unsanitary. They buzz around your food, land on everything, and can even carry harmful bacteria. If you’re tired of swatting at them or using chemical sprays that don’t really work, we’ve got a super simple and incredibly effective solution for you.

Today, we’ll show you how to make a homemade fly trap that doesn’t just repel flies — it captures them for good.

What You’ll Need:

  • One empty 2-liter plastic soda bottle
  • Some heavy-duty tape (like Scotch or duct tape)
  • A few pieces of overripe or rotting fruit or vegetables (old potatoes are great!)

How to Make It:

  1. Cut the bottle in half. Make sure the bottom part is slightly taller than the top.
  2. Remove the bottle cap, as you won’t need it.
  3. Place the rotten fruit or veggies into the bottom half of the bottle. This will act as bait to attract the flies.
  4. Flip the top half of the bottle upside-down (like a funnel) and insert it into the bottom half, so the neck is facing downward, just above the bait.
  5. Seal the two parts together with tape, making sure there are no gaps around the edges.

How It Works:

Rotting fruit naturally emits a scent that flies can’t resist. They’ll fly into the bottle through the funnel opening to get to the bait — but once inside, they struggle to find their way out. Eventually, they become trapped and die inside.

This method doesn’t rely on harmful chemicals or expensive gadgets. It’s safe, eco-friendly, and best of all, it works like a charm.

Set a few of these traps around your kitchen, garden, or anywhere flies are a problem — and enjoy a fly-free space in just a few days!
