‘Absolutely not’: King Charles III shuts down any hope of Prince Harry’s return as a ‘half-in, half-out’ royal despite fevered talk of a comeback

King Charles III has reportedly made his stance clear to Prince Harry, despite growing rumors that the Duke of Sussex might be staging a quiet return to royal duties.

According to palace sources, the monarch has told his son that there will never be a place for him as a “half-in, half-out” working royal.

A Rare Father-Son Meeting

The King, 76, met Harry, 41, privately for about an hour last week at Clarence House in London—their first face-to-face meeting in more than 18 months.

Initially, the reunion was seen as a turning point. Commentators speculated it could signal a “royal reset,” with courtiers even exploring ways to reunite father and son at future public events.

Harry fueled the speculation himself, telling The Guardian the following day that he still has “a lot of support from the British public.”

No Way Back as a Working Royal

But insiders insist the King has been unwavering on one crucial issue—Harry’s official role.

“The King is a forgiving man but has been absolutely clear in upholding his late mother (Queen Elizabeth II)’s decision that there cannot be ‘half-in, half-out’ members of the working Royal family,” a palace source told The Mail on Sunday.

The source brushed off talk of a comeback, remarking: “Whoever is behind them seems to have mistaken a brief tea and a slice of cake for the Treaty of Versailles.”

They also stressed that Harry will “absolutely not” be given any public role alongside the royals, even as a non-working member.

Harry’s California Life

Harry has lived in California since 2020 with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, after stepping away from royal duties in what became known as “Megxit.”

A source close to him maintained that any discussion of a royal return was “put to bed years ago” and that Harry is “very happy with his life in California.”

“The duke has made it clear that the focus has to be on his dad,” the source explained. “Beyond that, and on any other issues as it relates to his family, we won’t be commenting.”

William’s Different Approach

Notably, Prince William did not meet with his brother during Harry’s UK visit. Still, the Prince of Wales is said to be “very aware” of how his father has handled matters with Harry and is determined not to repeat what he sees as past mistakes.

Royal author Valentine Low told GB News: “William is very different from his father, and I think essentially, William is very aware of what he regards as mistakes his father has made, and he’s not going to repeat them.”
