The Duke of Sussex may be extending a subtle olive branch to his family, as hopes rise that the 2027 Invictus Games in the U.K. could become a rare moment of reunion between Prince Harry, King Charles, and Prince William.
Although the royal rift remains unresolved, sources suggest the international sporting event for wounded veterans — founded by Harry in 2014 — might offer a diplomatic opening. With the next Games scheduled to take place in Birmingham in July 2027, insiders claim Harry would welcome his father and brother’s presence.
“Invictus has always had royal support, and Harry hopes that will continue,” one unnamed source told the Mail on Sunday. “It would mean a great deal for the veterans — and for him personally — if his father could attend.”
While no formal invitations have been issued yet, the Games’ organizers are expected to reach out to VIPs, including royals, once official planning begins. Invitations, when sent, would come from the Invictus Games Foundation, not Harry directly.
Timing and Symbolism
The closing date of the 2027 Games will coincide with Queen Camilla’s 80th birthday, adding another layer of royal relevance to the event. Still, with King Charles continuing treatment for cancer and Prince William reportedly disengaged from the topic of reconciliation, whether a public show of unity is realistic remains uncertain.
According to a separate report in The Times, Prince William is said to have adopted a “healthier mindset” around the estrangement — essentially moving on without expecting resolution in the near future.
Harry Still Hopes
Harry, for his part, has expressed public interest in rebuilding family ties. In a BBC interview earlier this year, he said plainly: “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
However, questions remain — including whether Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will join him in the U.K. for the Games. The family last appeared together in the U.K. during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Looking Ahead: The Eighth Games
The 2027 event will mark the eighth edition of the Invictus Games, following previous host cities such as London, Toronto, Sydney, and Düsseldorf. Vancouver and Whistler are set to host the winter-focused Games in 2025.
While royal attendance is far from confirmed, the potential for reconciliation — even symbolically — adds a new dimension to what is already a powerful and emotional international gathering.
