Full details released as Prince William and Harry’s cousin, 20, is found d.e.a.d with firearm nearby to her

Rosie Roche, a 20-year-old distant relative of Princes William and Harry, was found dead on July 14 at her family home in Norton, Wiltshire. A shotgun was discovered nearby, and authorities have since confirmed that her death was not suspicious.

Rosie’s mother and sister found her while she was in the middle of packing for a trip with friends. The young woman, who was studying English Literature at Durham University, had been described as intelligent, kind, and full of potential.

During the initial inquest, Wiltshire Coroner Grant Davies stated, “Police have deemed the death as non-suspicious and there was no third-party involvement.” The circumstances surrounding her death have deeply impacted her family and community.

Heartbroken Family Pays Tribute

The Roche family released a brief statement expressing their sorrow. “She will be sorely missed,” a spokesperson shared. Her obituary in the Yorkshire Post remembered her as a beloved daughter of Hugh and Pippa, sister to Archie and Agatha, and granddaughter to Derek and Rae Long. A private funeral will be held, with a public memorial planned at a later date.

Rosie’s lineage includes the 5th Baron Fermoy—Princess Diana’s uncle—who also died by suicide in 1984. The tragic similarities between their deaths have sparked renewed discussion about mental health struggles within aristocratic families.

Friends and fellow students at Durham University remember Rosie as a dedicated, thoughtful young woman who was enthusiastic about her future. Her sudden passing has left many in shock.

Mental Health Advocates Urge Support

In response to the tragedy, mental health organizations have called for increased awareness and support for young people. “This is an unimaginable loss for the family and community,” said a representative from Mind. “We encourage anyone in emotional distress to reach out for help.”

The investigation into Rosie’s death is ongoing, with more details expected in the coming weeks. In the meantime, her family is planning a private memorial to honor her memory and the bright future she once looked forward to.
