I know Prince Harry will do a Diana documentary, it’s a massive money spinner – but he’ll butcher it, says royal expert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix contract has been renewed, and according to experts, executives hope the couple will deliver more royal revelations.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be in discussions with producers about potential projects that will justify the continuation of their deal. One subject Netflix appears especially keen on is Harry speaking candidly about his late mother, Princess Diana.

Netflix Wants Harry to Speak About Diana

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, royal journalist Phil Dampier predicted Harry would be willing to take part in such a documentary.

“I think Netflix will bite his arm off for this one,” Dampier said. “It would be very interesting to get his take on his mother. It won’t go down very well with the king or with Prince William. I think they’ll be absolutely horrified, and the Prince of Wales will particularly think that his mother is being exploited when he wants to leave that all behind him.”

The new arrangement, announced earlier this month, gives Netflix first refusal on any proposals from the Sussexes, while covering expenses for their Archewell Productions, including staff and office costs.

Although the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death is still two years away, television executives would need to begin planning within the next six months. Dampier believes Harry may well agree to it.

Money, Therapy, and “Harry’s Truth”

“I can see him doing this,” Dampier added. “It would be a massive money spinner, and Harry will probably treat it as some sort of therapy. He’ll convince himself it’s therapy for him, getting things off his chest and putting out his truth about what happened to his mother and how it devastated him as a young boy.”

Royal commentator Samara Gill, however, expressed concern that Harry and Meghan would shift the focus onto themselves.

“Diana’s story is a very sensitive and coveted story to tell, and I think Harry and Meghan will absolutely butcher it with their own lens,” she said. “I really think it could be a potential disaster because they will tell their side.”

Gill also warned that such a documentary could permanently damage the already fragile bond between Harry and William.

“This will probably be the final nail in the coffin for William,” she added. “Diana’s story has been paraded out, used, and abused, and then for your own son to capitalise on that with his craven wife — that’s the pinnacle for me.”

Diana’s Legacy and Harry’s Reflections

The timing may prove significant, as the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death approaches. She died in a car crash in Paris in 1997 when Harry was just 12.

Over the years, Harry has frequently spoken about his mother’s influence and the trauma of her loss. In his memoir, Spare, he described walking behind her coffin and recalled how his father broke the news of her death. He also revealed he once consulted a medium who told him: “Your mother is with you.”

According to Harry, the psychic added: “Your mother says, ‘You’re living the life she couldn’t. You’re living the life she wanted for you.’”

Harry and William have also marked their mother’s legacy together in the past, attending the Concert for Diana in 2007 and visiting floral tributes left outside Kensington Palace for the 20th anniversary in 2017.
