Prince Harry and King Charles ‘determined to meet face to face’ when duke returns to UK

King Charles is expected to reunite with his son Prince Harry for the first time in almost two years during Harry’s upcoming visit to the UK, reports suggest.

According to the Mirror, relations between father and son have “begun to ease” since last month’s so-called “peace summit.” However, any reconciliation with Prince William remains unlikely at this stage.

When Will the Meeting Take Place?

Prince Harry is due in London on Monday, September 8, to attend the WellChild Awards. His trip coincides with the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.

Harry is reportedly traveling alone, without Meghan Markle or their children. With King Charles remaining in the UK at the time, sources suggest an in-person meeting may finally take place — the first since February 2024.

Harry Open to Reconciliation

Earlier this year, Prince Harry indicated to the BBC that he hoped for a detente with his family.
“It would be nice to reconcile,” he said in May, also acknowledging his father’s cancer battle: “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”

A source now claims: “It’s clear there is a determination on both sides to make this happen. Nobody is pretending the wider family issues have been resolved, but this is about beginning with Charles and Harry.”

‘A Simple Conversation Between a Father and His Son’

Insiders suggest both men see this as the right time to reconnect.

“After 20 months apart, and with the king continuing his treatment, the feeling is that the time is right to take that step,” one source explained. “This is not about grand gestures or set-piece meetings. It’s about a simple face-to-face conversation between a father and his son.”

They emphasized that the priority is “privacy and dignity” while keeping the door open for future dialogue. However, chances of any reconciliation between Harry and William are said to have been “rejected out of hand.”

Steps Toward Communication

In July, reports suggested early efforts at building bridges began with a private meeting between Harry’s communications chief and a representative of the king. A source told the Mail on Sunday: “There’s a long road ahead. But a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.”

Royal Insider has contacted Buckingham Palace and Prince Harry’s representatives for comment.
