Prince William and Kate Middleton ‘could leave Adelaide Cottage for grander home’

Prince William and Princess Kate may soon bid farewell to their cozy Adelaide Cottage as reports suggest they are exploring a more expansive royal property to better suit their growing family’s needs.

According to insiders, the royal couple is seriously considering Fort Belvedere as their next home. The stately Gothic Revival residence sits on 59 secluded acres within Windsor Great Park and boasts an impressive list of amenities, including a tennis court, swimming pool, rose garden, lakes, and staff cottages.

“They feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial,” a source told the Mail on Sunday. “This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and a tennis court. Charlotte loves playing tennis.”

Fort Belvedere carries notable royal history—it was the site where King Edward VIII signed his abdication papers in 1936 to marry Wallis Simpson. The estate was once used as a summer retreat by Queen Victoria and later renovated by Edward VIII. It has since been home to royals and notable tenants, including Canadian billionaire Galen Weston.

Not an Immediate Move—but Serious Consideration

Although a relocation isn’t confirmed, discussions about the future are reportedly underway. William and Kate are believed to be looking at their long-term housing plans as they map out the next phase of their family life.

This includes making decisions about Prince George’s education, with Eton College strongly rumored to be on the table. As they plan ahead, privacy, security, and creating a stable family environment remain top priorities.

The couple had previously been linked to Royal Lodge—currently occupied by Prince Andrew—but that possibility appears to be off the table, largely due to Andrew’s reluctance to leave. Windsor Castle was also considered but is reportedly no longer an option.

Life at Adelaide Cottage: A Simpler Choice

In 2022, William and Kate made headlines with their move from the spacious Kensington Palace to the more modest Adelaide Cottage, located within the Windsor estate. The decision was guided by their desire to live closer to Queen Elizabeth II and to give their children a more grounded upbringing.

“There are plenty of other places they could have moved to. But Adelaide Cottage fits with their desire as parents to be a normal family. There aren’t servants and they don’t have 30 rooms,” royal expert Duncan Larcombe told OK! Magazine in 2024.

Royal biographer Katie Nicholl also praised the move: “Being able to live in the middle of Windsor Home Park, where they’re not overlooked and can come and go in complete privacy, makes the downsize from Kensington Palace worth it on every level.”

Looking Ahead: A Thoughtful Transition

Now, after three years at Adelaide Cottage, sources say the Prince and Princess of Wales may be preparing for another change. With the children attending Lambrook School and Kate focusing on her quiet recovery following cancer treatment, any potential move is likely to be handled with care and deliberation.

Still, Fort Belvedere—with its combination of history, privacy, and space—could be just the fresh start the family is looking for.
