Prince William to exclude three royals from his reign and give them ‘no duties’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly hoping to retain the HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles for their two children, Prince Archie, who is five, and Princess Lilibet, age three.

However, sources suggest that their royal roles under the future leadership of Prince William are likely to be minimal—or nonexistent.

William Has No Plans to Include Harry’s Children in the Monarchy

According to reports, Prince William intends to exclude Archie and Lilibet from any future royal duties. An insider told The Times: “What’s really noticeable now is that he just doesn’t talk about it anymore.

There was a time when family matters were constantly on his mind—his relationship with Harry especially. It used to upset him deeply, but now it seems like he’s moved past it. It’s a change. A sad one, maybe, but he’s in a much healthier place mentally.”

Andrew Also Considered a Risk to the Royal Family

Sources close to the palace say Prince William views his uncle, Prince Andrew, as a liability—someone who poses a risk and a potential threat to the monarchy. As a result, Andrew is also expected to remain excluded from royal duties, joining Archie and Lilibet on the sidelines.

Earlier this year, Prince William referred to 2024 as “probably the worst year of my life,” as he faced the emotional toll of both his wife, Princess Catherine’s cancer treatment, and his father King Charles’s own health issues.

Redefining Royal Work and Leadership

Despite personal hardships, William continues to take a more modern approach to royal duty. He’s led efforts such as the Homewards project, which focuses on ending homelessness, and remains deeply involved in the Earthshot Prize.

Speaking about his evolving role, the Prince of Wales explained: “I can only describe what I’m trying to do as different. Maybe it’s with a smaller ‘r’ in the royal. It’s more about having an impact—working collaboratively, bringing people together, and offering help where it’s needed. And I think empathy is crucial in all of this.”

He added, “I really care about the work I do. It affects real lives. I think the world could use more empathetic leadership, and that’s something I’m trying to contribute. Catherine is, too. Everything we do—Earthshot, Homewards, future projects—it all revolves around values that help make people’s lives better.”
