Taylor Swift’s reaction to controversial Donald Trump comment by Travis Kelce ahead of the Super Bowl

This weekend promises an exciting showdown for American football fans as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to face off against the Philadelphia Eagles. Ahead of the Super Bowl, Chiefs star Travis Kelce made a remark that sparked a strong reaction from his girlfriend’s fanbase.

The Controversy: Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

Kelce expressed that it would be a “great honor” to play in front of the president, prompting many Swifties—Taylor Swift’s dedicated fans—to urge her to distance herself from him.

“If my boyfriend says it’s a great honor to have the man that slanders me constantly, I would break up with him immediately,” one fan commented. Another added, “No Travis, it’s not awesome or an honor for that man to be there. His whole answer was just… yikes.”

The backlash stems from past remarks made by former President Donald Trump about Swift. Trump previously stated that he “hates her” in response to her endorsement of his political opponent, Kamala Harris, during the 2024 presidential campaign. At the time, Swift voiced her support for Harris, stating, “We can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

Despite the controversy, Swift has stood by Kelce, clarifying that his statement was not an endorsement of Trump but rather a show of respect for the office of the presidency, regardless of who holds it.

Ahead of the big game, Kelce shared his thoughts on the president’s attendance, saying, “It’s awesome. It’s a great honor, I think, no matter who the President is.” He continued, “I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, and having the President there… it’s the best country in the world, so it’s pretty cool.”

People close to the couple insist that Kelce’s comments were not meant to be political. Instead, he was speaking on behalf of his team and showing respect for the position of the country’s leader.

According to sources who spoke to the Daily Mail, Swift is not upset with Kelce. “Although Travis’s quote was taken as if he supports Trump, this is not what Travis said at all,” one source explained.
