Will Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s Royal Titles Be Affected as Prince Andrew Gives Up His Own?

Following Prince Andrew’s announcement that he will no longer use his royal titles or honors, questions quickly surfaced regarding the impact on his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

The statement, released on Oct. 17, prompted widespread speculation about whether their royal status would be affected in light of renewed scrutiny surrounding Prince Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie Remain Unaffected

According to reports, Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, will retain their titles and positions within the royal family. Their royal status remains unchanged, and they will continue to be styled as “Princess,” a title granted from birth as daughters of Prince Andrew and granddaughters of Queen Elizabeth II.

Though neither Beatrice nor Eugenie are full-time working royals, they attend major royal events and maintain their roles in the line of succession.

Their Place in the Line of Succession

Prince Andrew currently sits eighth in line to the British throne. Following him are his daughters and their children:

  • Princess Beatrice is ninth in line, followed by her daughters Sienna Mapelli Mozzi and Athena Mapelli Mozzi.
  • Princess Eugenie is twelfth in line, followed by her sons August Brooksbank and Ernest Brooksbank.

This confirms their continuing place in royal succession, unaffected by their father’s decision.

Public Roles and Future Royal Appearances

Although they do not carry out official royal duties on a full-time basis, both Beatrice and Eugenie pursue private careers while still participating in major family occasions such as Christmas celebrations and other significant royal events.

At this time, there is no indication that they will withdraw from these traditional gatherings due to the recent developments involving their father.

Their mother, Sarah Ferguson, will also discontinue the use of her Duchess of York title. While she has been professionally known as Sarah Ferguson for many years, she will now use that name exclusively.

Prince Andrew’s Position

Despite stepping back from using his titles, Prince Andrew remains a prince by birth. As the son of Queen Elizabeth II, he retains the title of “Prince” under the terms of the Letters Patent established in 1917 by King George V and updated by Queen Elizabeth in 2012.

In his Oct. 17 statement, Andrew said, “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.”

He added, “With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
