Ellen DeGeneres ‘leaves US and moves to England’ after Trump win

Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly left the US for the UK after Donald Trump’s recent election win, making him only the second president in American history to serve two non-consecutive terms.

While many celebrities have floated the idea of leaving the US following Trump’s victory, DeGeneres appears to be one of the few who has followed through.

Reports indicate that the former talk show host and her wife, Portia de Rossi—best known for her role in Arrested Development—have swapped their Montecito, California home (notably the same area where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reside) for a residence in England.

Where Did Ellen Move?

The couple is said to have settled in the Cotswolds, a scenic region in South West England favored by high-profile figures like David and Victoria Beckham, Hugh Grant, and Kate Moss.

A Challenging Few Years

DeGeneres, 66, has faced significant public backlash in recent years following allegations of bullying and a toxic workplace culture on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Despite issuing a statement taking responsibility for the negative environment, her once-pristine image was deeply tarnished.

In 2024, Ellen officially stepped away from show business, wrapping up her career with a final stand-up special titled For Your Approval. Given her retirement, it’s perhaps unsurprising that she and de Rossi have chosen to relocate, although the reported reason behind the move has stirred controversy.

Leaving the US After Trump’s Win

Sources claim Ellen and Portia’s decision to move was influenced by Trump’s election victory. While TMZ reported that the couple had purchased their Cotswolds home before the election, they allegedly felt compelled to leave the US after the results.

An insider source reportedly told The Wrap that the pair is adamant about their move, stating they will “never” return to the United States.
