I Came Home Three Hours Early and Froze When I Found My Mother Cooking for My Husband’s Family While Carrying My Son on Her Back—They Had No Idea the Woman They Looked Down On Had Been Gathering Evidence for Months and Secretly Owned the Mansion Across the Street

Part 2 of 3

For a moment, Colby said nothing.

His expression did not show shame.

It showed calculation.

And Jenna knew he was already wondering how much the property was worth.

The Secret Behind the Locked Gate

The next morning, Colby stood outside the gate wearing yesterday’s shirt.

Patrice remained behind him, suddenly speaking in a soft and affectionate voice.

“Jenna, honey, please open the gate. Everything got out of hand. Your mother can rest now. We can all move past this.”

Jenna answered through the intercom.

“You are not moving into this house.”

Colby stepped closer.

“We’re married. Half of it is mine.”

“We signed a prenuptial agreement and maintain separate property. I purchased this home through documented company income. Your name appears nowhere on the deed.”

His face tightened.

“You hid money from me.”

“I protected the results of my work from a man who used my own accounts to disrespect my family.”

Colby changed tactics.

“Open the gate, or I’ll file for divorce. I’ll ask for custody of Finn. I’ll tell the court you travel constantly and leave him behind.”

Jenna had expected the threat.

She activated a screen mounted beside the gate.

Receipts appeared one after another.

There were hotel charges, jewelry purchases, restaurant bills, and monthly payments for a furnished apartment in downtown Raleigh.

Then a photograph appeared of Colby embracing a woman named Sienna Brooks.

Colby’s face lost its color.

“Where did you get those?”

“From the company card you used because you assumed no one reviewed the expenses.”

The relationship had continued for almost a year.

Colby had promised Sienna that he would soon divorce Jenna, receive a large settlement, and move into an impressive new home.

Patrice knew about everything.

Recovered messages showed that she had encouraged Colby to provoke disagreements, record Jenna when she was exhausted, and describe her as emotionally unstable.

Their goal was not simply to end the marriage.

They planned to use Finn.

One message from Patrice read, “Once you have the child most of the time, she’ll have to support all of us.”

Another message from Colby described custody as “the only leverage that matters.”

Jenna had discovered the messages months earlier.

That was when she stopped sharing information about her company, purchased the house across the street through a separate legal entity, and quietly collected every record she might need.

She had hoped she was wrong.

The scene in the kitchen proved she was not.

Everything He Thought He Owned

Later that morning, a towing company arrived for Colby’s luxury SUV.

He rushed outside.

“You can’t take my vehicle.”

The driver checked the paperwork.

“It is registered to Bellamy Clinical Distribution. Your driving privileges have been withdrawn.”

His company phone was disconnected an hour later.

Sienna blocked his number as soon as she learned he did not own the mansion, the SUV, or the expensive watch he had repeatedly displayed in photographs.

For four days, Colby and Patrice remained in the old house, complaining about the heat, arguing about money, and blaming Jenna.

Neither of them asked whether Mabel had recovered.

Neither asked how Finn was sleeping.

On the fifth morning, Jenna crossed the street with her attorney, Taryn McCall, a digital records specialist, and a notary.

Taryn handed Colby a thick folder.

“This contains the divorce petition, the temporary parenting request, and a claim concerning unauthorized corporate expenses.”

Colby noticed a flash drive inside.

“What is that?”

Taryn opened a video on her tablet.

The recording showed Mabel losing her balance beside the stove while Finn cried against her back.

Patrice’s voice could be heard ordering another side dish.

Then Colby spoke from the living room.

“Leave her alone. People like her are used to working with their hands.”

He reached for the tablet.

“That is taken out of context.”

Taryn moved it away.

“The context is a sick older woman struggling in a hot kitchen while two healthy adults ignored a distressed child.”

The next file contained Patrice’s voice.

“Once Jenna loses custody, Finn’s support payments will cover us. Colby can marry Sienna after everything is settled.”

Patrice began denying the conversation.

The digital specialist remained calm.

“The recordings, access logs, messages, and transaction records have all been preserved and verified.”

Then one final audio file played.

Colby was laughing.

“Jenna will never suspect anything. She thinks that as long as I don’t make a scene, we’re still a family. She’ll tolerate anything for Finn.”

Patrice answered:

“Then let her. That is what wives do.”

A Child Was Never Meant to Be Leverage

The family court hearing took place several weeks later.
