Marlene came rushing over.

“Have some class. My son has moved on.”

I pulled the wedding invitation from my purse.

“You asked me to come because Vanessa could supposedly teach me how a real wife supports her husband.”

I looked toward Vanessa.

“I’m learning quite a lot.”

Grant reached for the invitation, but I put it away.

Then Vanessa made her first serious mistake.

“Relationships change, Audrey. Grant and I developed feelings after your marriage was already emotionally over.”

“When?”

She stopped.

“What date?”

Neither of them answered.

But I knew something they did not.

I had evidence.

During the divorce, my attorney, Lila Hartwell, had been reviewing financial documents when I showed her an old screenshot Grant had accidentally sent me.

At the time, Grant had been trying to prove that even my therapist thought I was too controlling.

Unfortunately for him, he had cropped the screenshot badly.

At the top was part of an earlier conversation with Vanessa.

It referenced meeting privately after one of my therapy appointments.

Another message was even more troubling.

Vanessa had suggested that if I believed certain divorce decisions were my own idea, I would be more likely to sign quickly.

Then came a reference to an investment account.

An account Grant had initially failed to disclose during our divorce negotiations.

My Attorney Told Me Not to Confront Them

When Lila first saw the screenshot, she told me to stay quiet.

“Do not contact either of them about this yet.”

She began organizing everything we legitimately had.

Appointment confirmations.

Therapy receipts.

Emails.

Financial records.

Messages.

Dates.

The timeline became increasingly difficult for Grant and Vanessa to explain.

There were also communications in which Vanessa appeared to know information I had discussed privately during sessions.

That morning, before the wedding, Lila had helped me submit a formal complaint to Vanessa’s employer and the appropriate professional body for review.

We also sought legal advice concerning the handling of confidential information.

I did not go to the wedding planning some dramatic public revenge.

I went because they had invited me.

But I brought a copy of the documents.

I reached into my purse and removed a cream-colored envelope.

“Congratulations,” I said. “I brought you a wedding gift.”

Vanessa opened it.

She read the first page.

Then the second.

Her hands began trembling.

Grant leaned over her shoulder.

The anger disappeared from his face.

“Where did you get this?”

“From you.”

One Bad Screenshot Changed Everything

Grant stared at me.

Then I saw recognition in his eyes.

Months earlier, during an argument, he had told me that even Vanessa believed my need for control was ruining our marriage.

I had asked why my therapist was discussing me with him.

Trying to prove himself right, Grant sent me a screenshot.

He never realized what remained visible at the top.

Now he remembered.

“That conversation is being taken out of context,” Vanessa said.

A woman’s voice came from behind me.

“Then you’ll have an opportunity to provide the context.”

Grant turned around.

Lila was standing several feet away.

His eyes widened.

“You brought your attorney to my wedding?”

“I asked her to remain nearby.”

Marlene marched toward us.

“This is unbelievable! You came here to ruin my son’s wedding!”

I looked at the woman who had spent years telling me that a good wife needed to be more patient.

“No, Marlene. Your son made his own decisions. Vanessa made hers. I’m simply no longer hiding the consequences for them.”

For once, Marlene had nothing to say.

Then Grant’s Mother Learned the Truth

Vanessa tried to defend herself.

“I never used anything Audrey told me professionally to pursue Grant.”

Lila remained composed.

“Then the review process should clarify the timeline.”

Marlene suddenly looked confused.

She turned toward her son.

“Wait. Vanessa was Audrey’s therapist?”

Grant looked away.

“Mom, not now.”

“You told me you met Vanessa through friends.”

Grant said nothing.

Marlene looked at Vanessa.

For the first time that afternoon, her confidence disappeared.

“Were you counseling Audrey while you were seeing my son?”

Vanessa attempted to step closer.

“Marlene, this is more complicated than—”

“Yes or no?”

Grant interrupted.

“Enough! This is our wedding day.”

I almost felt sorry for Marlene.

Almost.

She had known her son had been unfaithful, but apparently even she had been given a carefully edited version of the story.

I picked up my purse.

“I’m leaving.”

Grant grabbed my arm.

“You’re not leaving until you delete everything.”

Lila stepped forward immediately.

“Let go of her.”

Paige raised her phone.

Several other guests were already watching.

Grant released me.

Then Vanessa made things worse.

“Audrey, if you continue with this, private things about you may become public too.”

Lila’s expression changed instantly.
