“I’m already on my way.”

Conrad laughed softly.

He had no idea who Theodore Ashcombe truly was.

After my parents died when I was very young, my grandfather had deliberately kept me away from public attention. He believed that character mattered more than privilege.

He owned hospitals, research laboratories, investment firms, and development companies across the country.

Throughout my adult life, I had chosen to live quietly, using my mother’s family name instead of his.

Conrad believed he had married an ordinary financial consultant.

He never realized that I was Theodore Ashcombe’s only grandchild.

Ten minutes later, the elevator doors opened.

Two members of the hospital security team entered first.

Behind them came the hospital director, legal advisers, and several assistants carrying folders.

Finally, my grandfather stepped into the room.

His silver hair reflected the afternoon light.

He moved slowly with the help of a cane, but his presence immediately changed the atmosphere.

Every person in the hallway recognized him.

Sadie suddenly tightened her grip on Conrad’s arm.

“That’s Theodore Ashcombe,” she whispered.

My grandfather walked directly past them.

He stopped beside the incubators.

“Which one is Caleb?”

I pointed toward the first incubator.

He smiled.

Then he looked toward Nora.

His eyes softened.

“They are extraordinary children.”

For the first time that day, tears filled my eyes.

Conrad forced an uneasy smile.

“Mr. Ashcombe, I’m afraid there’s been a misunderstanding.”

My grandfather turned toward him.

“No, Conrad. I believe there has finally been a revelation.”

The Truth Hidden Inside the Numbers

A woman wearing a navy-blue suit stepped forward.

Her name was Victoria Hale, my grandfather’s chief attorney.

She carefully examined the documents Conrad had brought.

The farther she read, the colder her expression became.

“You presented legal papers to your wife less than forty-eight hours after major surgery,” she said. “You transferred shared funds, removed access to financial accounts, and entered a restricted medical area accompanied by another woman wearing your wife’s property.”

Conrad crossed his arms.

“She signed voluntarily.”

Victoria shook her head.

“Pressure and fairness are not the same thing.”

Another attorney opened a second folder.

“There is also the matter of Bellamy Health Solutions.”

Conrad immediately stiffened.

“That has nothing to do with this conversation.”

My grandfather calmly replied, “On the contrary, it has everything to do with it.”

Months earlier, I had noticed irregularities in the company’s financial records.

Invoices did not match expenses.

Funds were transferred through unfamiliar organizations.

Consulting fees appeared without explanation.

Conrad had forgotten one very important detail.

I had designed the financial reporting system myself.

While he spent his time convincing everyone that I was weak, I quietly gathered evidence.

Victoria placed several documents on the table.

“Millions of dollars have been redirected through companies associated with Ms. Knox.”

Sadie looked horrified.

“Conrad told me everything was legal.”

“Be quiet,” he snapped.

Those two words told everyone exactly what they needed to know.

I opened the drawer beside my bed and removed a small storage drive.

Conrad’s expression changed immediately.

“Give that to me.”

Instead, I handed it to Victoria.

“Everything you need is there.”

He took a step toward me.

Security officers immediately moved into position.

“Elara, please listen to me,” he said desperately. “We can work this out.”

I looked toward the incubators.

“You called our children a burden.”
